What do you need to get a freight quote?
Four things are enough to price almost any shipment:
- Where it is coming from — city or supplier address
- Where it is going — UK delivery postcode
- What the goods are — a plain description is fine
- Weight and dimensions — per carton or pallet, plus how many
If you do not have exact dimensions yet, send your best estimate. An estimated
quote now is more useful than a perfect one next week, and it can be firmed up once
your supplier confirms the packing list.
How long does a quote take?

Complex movements — project cargo, out-of-gauge, dangerous goods, multi-leg
routings — can take longer because they need carrier confirmation, and we will tell
you if that is the case rather than leaving you waiting.
Is the quote free, and am I committing to anything?
Quotes are free and carry no obligation. You are asking a price, not placing a
booking. Many enquiries come from businesses comparing options or costing a project
that has not been approved yet — that is a normal and welcome use of a quote.
Will the quote include duty, VAT and all charges?
Ask for the landed cost and Carrgo will break out the freight, surcharges,
handling, customs entry, and estimated duty and VAT separately, so you can see the
true total rather than a freight-only headline. Duty and VAT are government
charges set by your commodity code — they are payable on import whoever moves the
goods, so any quote that omits them is not the real cost.
What should a freight shipping quote include?
A complete freight shipping quote itemises the freight leg, fuel and currency
surcharges, origin and destination handling, the customs entry, and estimated duty
and VAT. A quote that shows only the freight rate is hiding the charges that appear
later, so always ask for the landed total before you compare providers.
What if you have never imported before?
That is fine and it is common. You do not need to know your Incoterms, commodity
code or clearance process before making contact — those are things Carrgo works out
